March 2, 1836 Texas Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836. Sixty delegates from all over Texas signed the declaration. In the fall of 1835, many Texans, both Anglo-American colonists and Tejanos, concluded that liberty and republicanism in Mexico, as reflected in its Constitution of 1824, were dead.
