Notable Fallen Officers

  1. Sgt. Michael Smith: A 27-year veteran of the department and an Army veteran.
  2. Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens: Served for 14 years and was previously with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
  3. Officer Michael Krol: A member of the department for nine years, previously served with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
  4. Officer Patrick Zamarripa: A six-year veteran of the department and a Navy veteran.
  5. DART Officer Brent Thompson: Corsicana native, former CPD, NCSO, and a Marine veteran also lost his life during the ambush dallasexpress.com+1.

The 2016 Ambush Incident

On July 7, 2016, during a peaceful protest against police brutality in downtown Dallas, a gunman opened fire, resulting in the deaths of these five officers. This incident marked the deadliest attack on law enforcement since 9/11, with nine other officers and two civilians injured. The attack was carried out by Micah Johnson, who was later killed by police using a robot with explosives
